About the Light Department

Lighting Control at WC FOH

A lot of people generally overlook lighting when it comes to events. They know they need sound. They might need video. A lot of times, lighting is the last thing to be discussed

because the general consensus is that lighting is easy. People think lighting is just hanging a bunch of fixtures and then turn them on. Any trained monkey can do it, right? As you may or may not be aware, there is much more to it than that.

Lighting can be a powerful tool for ministry. We can sculpt the mood of the music by how things are lit. A good example of this is the Worship Center. On the weekends, it’s a very general lighting scheme. Things are lit with very broad strokes. From the same lighting system, take a look at a Night of Worship for a much more moody lighting setup. The lighting system is exactly the same. However, things are more dramatic and purposeful. Lights are focused in tight, color is more saturated, and it is a much darker feel. It’s all the same fixtures; it changes by how things are used.

The fun thing about lighting at Saddleback is that there are so many different venues. You can choose where you’d like to be. You can rotate around and work with the various lighting setups or you can choose to work one venue all the time. It’s completely up to you. The Worship Center, Praise, Overdrive, Passion, Singles….there is something for everyone.
I’d like to thank you for your interest in the lighting team. If this sounds like something you’d like to pursue, please let us know by clicking on the “Volunteer” link and fill out the questionnaire. We’ll be in touch soon and will try to get you plugged in as soon as possible.
